B. Ongoing Projects

1. Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway Construction Project

Da Nang-Quang Ngai is the first Expressway project in the Central region with the total length of 139,52km crossing 03 cities and provinces: Da Nang City, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai. The project scale is 4 lanes and 2 emergency lanes with design speed of 120km/h and design standard of expressway class A. The project commencement date was on May 19^th 2013, put into operation since 2018; The total investment is 34,516 billion VND (1.641 million USD), including 25,306 billion VND (1,203 million USD) of State budget, and 9,210 billion VND (438 million USD) of VEC’s mobilization source.

The project construction includes 26 large bridges, 9 medium bridges and 63 small bridges; 01 tunnel at Km22+656; 09 interchanges; 02 main toll gates, 07 additional toll gates; close toll gate system uses ITS; 01 traffic operating center; 03 service areas.

The importance of Project

Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway will support the international transportation for the nations in the region through the East – West transport corridor system, contributing to the international integration of the country.

After completion, the expressway will shorten the travel distance and reduce the travelling duration among economic centers, industrial zones and generate more opportunities for investing in Central region of Vietnam, accelerate the development of key Central economic zone, as well as support for socio-economic development, national defense, public security, and improve living standards of people in the project regions in particular and in Vietnam in general.

The project also reduces the number of traffic accidents; ensures the smooth and stable traffic flow in any circumstance, especially in stormy season and together with National Highway No.1 plays an important role in goods and passenger transportation for the region and the whole country as well.

2. Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway Construction Project

Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway Project - one of the key National projects - is an important part of North-South Highway with the total length of 57,1km, passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Long An and Dong Nai provinces. The Project is designed in accordance with the Expressway standard class A with 4 lanes and 2 emergency lanes, and the designed speed of 100km/h. The project commencement date is on July 19^th 2014 and is expected to put into operation in 2019; the total investment: 31,320 billion VND (1,489 million USD), including 17,973 billion VND (856 million USD) of State budget, 13,347 billion VND (633 million USD) of VEC’s mobilization source.

The project includes 11 bridges and overpass with total length of 25,7km, of which are 02 large cable strayed bridge (Binh Khanh bridge crossing Soai Rap river, Phuoc Khanh bridge crossing Long Tau river); 52 drainage converts; 09 residential culverts, around 12 technical converts; 09 interchanges; 01 traffic operating center; 02 administrations operating expressway; 02 service areas; 06 toll gates with ITS.

The importance of project

This project makes great contribution to the development of the key economic-area of Southern region, especially the Southeast region, as well as promoting the economic potential and generating more opportunities for the investment and tourism of Ho Chi Minh City, Long An and Dong Nai provinces.

The project support the investment attraction into regional industrial zones and ports. It also satisfies the urgent demand of transportation on existing National Highway, especially NH1. Furthermore, the Expressway will create connection with Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway.

C. Preparation projects

1. Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway Construction Project

The total length of Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway (1^st period) is approximately 46km from Bien Hoa – Phu My (37km) and Phu My – QL 51 (9km) crossing Dong Nai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau provinces. Total estimated investment is 8,795 billion VND. It is scheduled to implement Project by BOT contract.

The project includes many large-volume categories: 21 bridges (with 02 railway flyovers: 1,530.8m of Hoa Hung – Trang Bom and Bien Hoa – Vung Tau); 02 interchanges Bien Hoa and Long Thanh, 47 pipe culverts with total length 1,871 m, 24 box culvert flyovers, 17.5km of frontage road; close toll plaza, 01 main toll plaza and 02 additional toll plazas; 02 service areas, 02 O&M stations.

The project will create motivation growth, and increase the role and position of Key economic zone of the Southern region; It also eases the traffic pressure on existing NH51 and increases goods and passengers transportation capacity among Ho Chi Minh City and ports. Moreover, the project creates premise of the industry zone development, urban area to complete traffic infrastructure which is one of important elements to form Long Thanh international airport as well as others.

2. Ha Noi – Lang Son Expressway Construction Project (Km1+800 – Km45+100 period)

The total length of Ha Noi – Lang Son expressway project at Km 1+800 – Km45+100 is 43.3km crossing Lang Son province. The total estimated investment is 9,953 billion VND. The project uses OCR and ADF loan of Asia Development Bank (ADB).

The project has to construct many large-volume categories: 20 bridges (with 08 river bridges of 1.638m, 11 bridges of 1.172m, 01 bridge in interchange of 90,6m); 01 tunnel at Ban Thi of 77m; 27 residential curvets; 01 interchange and 3 direct interchanges; 47 pipe culverts with 1,872m total length, 24 residential culvert flyovers, approximately 17.5km of frontage road; close Toll plaza, 02 main toll gates and 01 additional toll gate.

The project shortens travelling time and improves traffic situation. Industry cluster around Ha Noi, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh will expend to the North East area, brings many job opportunities and accesses better social service and other utilities for local people.
